The Youth Jubilee in Rome is also a gathering for young catechumens from around the world
Summary
The Youth Jubilee in Rome, from July 28 to August 3, 2025, is an event organized by Pope Francis to gather young Catholics, especially neophytes and catechumens. The event emphasizes experiencing the Church's universality and includes special gatherings, catechesis, and spiritual support.
From July 28 to August 3, 2025, Rome will host the Youth Jubilee, an exceptional event organized by Pope Francis to bring together young people from around the world. Catechumens, neophytes, or young people in search of faith are all invited to pass through the holy doors and experience the universal Church in its spiritual capital.
The event, which will take place from July 28 to August 3, 2025, in Rome, offers young people from all walks of faith the opportunity to experience the universality of the Church and interact with other cultures. Usually, the Church offers this experience during World Youth Days. In this jubilee year, Pope Francis is offering a similar experience for young people to pass through the holy doors and be supported in their spiritual journey. The French Bishops' Conference (CEF) has focused this Youth Jubilee on neophytes and catechumens, whose numbers have been steadily increasing in recent years. By attending this Jubilee, they can share the joy of being surrounded by other young Christians worldwide. This is an opportunity to experience the "universal Church" in Rome, its beating heart. Specific events such as meetings and catechesis will be organized for them.
For French participants, two "highlights" will mark the Youth Jubilee: passing through the Holy Door at the Lateran on Wednesday, July 30, and a gathering for students and young professionals on Thursday, July 31, featuring lectures and debates.
In an interview, Father Julien Dupont, the national delegate for youth ministry and responsible for the Youth Jubilee for the CEF, explains the importance of this event for the French Church. He describes the jubilee as a time for all Catholics to be pilgrims of hope, with a special gathering for 18 to 35-year-olds to encounter other young Catholics from around the world.
The event specifically invites young people who will be baptized at Easter, emphasizing the importance of this experience for neophytes and catechumens. Each year in France, nearly 4500 young people between 18 and 35 are baptized, and the Jubilee offers them a chance to discover the universality and unity of the Catholic Church. Pope Francis often describes the Church as a "polyhedron," a geometric shape that respects differences and plurality.
Specific events are planned for these French neophytes and catechumens, such as a meeting on July 29, before the Jubilee officially opens at St. Peter's Square, to reflect on the universality of the Church through the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed. On August 1, catecheses on another article of the Church's creed will be offered: "I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins." During the passage through the Holy Door at the Lateran Basilica on July 30, a remembrance of the gift of baptism received will be highlighted. Near the baptistery adjacent to the basilica, prayers will be offered for those initiating into Christian life.
